Volkswagen has announced that the updated 2025 Golf R will be revealed on June 26. The teaser photos released earlier show that the 2025 Golf R will have similar styling updates to the 2025 Golf GTI. It is also expected that the Golf R will get a power boost, increasing its current 315 horsepower output.
Earlier this year, Volkswagen introduced the 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI, which featured sharper styling, more power, and an upgraded interior with a new 12.9-inch touchscreen. Volkswagen also hinted at the refreshed Golf R by showing a camouflaged prototype. Now, the automaker has confirmed that the Golf R will make its debut on June 26.
The teaser image for the reveal date doesn’t show much detail. It features illuminated headlights connected by an LED light bar and a light-up Volkswagen logo. The headlights resemble the updated ones on the new GTI, and the previously released photos also showed similarly redesigned taillights.
The front bumper has larger openings to cool the engine and give the Golf R a more aggressive look, while the rear sports a spoiler.
Inside, we expect the Golf R to receive the same updates as the GTI. This includes the new touchscreen, revised infotainment system, and real buttons on the steering wheel, replacing the haptic touch-sensitive controls of the previous model. The Golf R is also likely to get more power. The current model’s turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine produces 315 horsepower. However, it’s worth noting that Volkswagen has discontinued the manual transmission for the 2025 model year. Therefore, the 2025 Golf R will only be available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
